Review Anything, Rate Everything!: Maleficent 2014 Movie Review

First and foremost reason why I watched the Disney movie Maleficent was because it starred Angelina Jolie, otherwise I probably would not have given much attention to it. I was wondering what it meant, because I wasn't familiar with the
word. Silly it rhymes with magnificent, though I have watched a lot of fairy tales in my childhood years, villain names really do not register in my mind.

Here's my synopsis and review of this movie. Upon watching it, I found out that Maleficent is a little girl's name. Not an ordinary little girl, she had wings, a fairy who lived in a land far far away.. well, not really, because a boy eventually reached their forest kingdom. Wherein during that time I believe had been a boundary between their kind and humans, and so their friendship was rare, for it can change the way things were and probably unite the lands. They lived in harmony until they grew up, Maleficent turning into a beautiful young woman-fairy, with big, sturdy, powerful wings, it's length reached the ground as she walked.

What I could not believe was after the trust he has given to her friend, she was betrayed. Turns out that his father was king in human land, and as war broke out, he was wounded as so became his last wish to his son to avenge him. Which he did, not by killing Maleficent, but by cutting her wings, which was I could only imagine, like death brought to her as well! I would not blame her for seeking revenge, which she took her time, and did fulfill by cursing her friend, the New King's child, that before her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and be doomed to eternal sleep!

Thus, the King wanting to protect her, sent her away with three fairies, who apparently had no idea raising a child, and Maleficent having kept an eye on this little baby, Aurora, was forced to take over and hence, the role of a Fairy Godmother, until she reached the cursed age. The time came where it had to take its place, Aurora found out that she was not her guardian but was actually the one who cursed her and that her family lives, and that Maleficent was the reason why she was sent away. She then ended up pricking herself and into deep sleep.

Maleficent having been full of hatred believed that there is no such thing as true love. She grieved and was full of regret for what she did, proving that we get nothing by taking revenge, but become more miserable in return! The sleeping beauty I know, was awoken by a prince charming. But here, it was this fairy godmother's true love that broke the spell. It was by her tearful kiss that woke up sleeping beauty, and Maleficent, the once pure-hearted girl who was clouded with the darkness of hatefulness, was back to the way she was. So there is such a thing as true love after all! This is a great lesson in life: we must not rely only fully rely on a partner to be happy with true love, but we have family and other loved ones who will always be there for us no matter what. Love can indeed melt a cold heart.
