In today's world, we can be very busy and our calendars are most likely filled with so many things to do piled on top of the other. It's all about work, work and work. Why not make a tiny change and lighten up? Mark your calendar this coming January 3rd for National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day, this is a special chocolate holiday you simply must celebrate! Throughout the year, there are so many chocolate holidays
that are not only for chocolate lovers but for everyone, for it surely brings so much delight and comfort, so don't miss out on the first one! The main thought here is to indulge and feel the much enjoyable pleasure of popping chocolate covered cherries in your mouth, savoring its sweet and juicy flavor. If you love chocolate and cherries, then this is your perfect match.

What are chocolate covered cherries? These are a traditional dessert confection that is made of maraschino cherries which are usually coated in sugar before being smothered in rich milk chocolate sauce. This sauce is made up of butter, cream and semisweet chocolate. It is then refrigerated. It dates back in 1929 when it was introduced by Cella's Confections in New York, where their cherries had an extra gooey taste for it was 100% liquid in its core. Cella's Confections was then eventually bought by Tootsie Roll in 1985. Another manufacturer is Marich Confectionery. Chocolate covered cherries come in variations such as cherry cordial which is made up of liquid fillings that often has cherry liqueur, it also comes as chocolate covered candies and can also be chocolate covered dried cherries. This popular dessert was featured in the story line of one South Park episode, Simpsons Already Did It. A notable recipe is one made by Tom Faglon, where he added pomegranate seeds on the dark chocolate's surface which taste has been described as sophisticated by Melissa Clark of the New York Times.

There are many store bought chocolate covered cherries but there's nothing like the joy of making your own at home to satisfy your cravings. Here's a very easy recipe for you. You'll only need two to three ingredients and it only takes around 20 minutes to prepare and 5 minutes to cook. Then 40 minutes wait time.

Chocolate Covered Cherries Recipe

What you need:

40 maraschino cherries that still has stems and are packed in heavy syrup
1 cup semi sweet chocolate morsels
1 cup white chocolate morsels (optional)

What to do:

First, drain the cherries well then pat them dry with paper towels.
Next, line cookie sheets with parchment or wax paper.
Using a stainless steel bowl set over a pan of just simmering and not boiling water, melt the chocolates and stir until smooth.
Holding the stem of the cherry, dip and coat it with the melted chocolate. For much more fun, you can dip half of the cherry in semisweet and the other half in white chocolate.
Transfer your coated cherries to the prepared cookie sheet then refrigerate for about 40 minutes.

You can then enjoy and indulge in your homemade chocolate covered cherries, share it with family and friends, or give as a very special gift. Writing about this chocolate holiday on my blog has been really fun, and if you know of fun stuff and interesting ideas, then you must share it too.
